How can i open the minds of my homophobic friends/family?

lately iv been hearing alot of rude remarks coming from my family and friends towards gays/bisexuals and i frend it very disrespectful. im strait but i don't think its right to judge people especially for their sexuality. every time i try to confront them about their hatred and they just keep bringing up the bible. it really pisses me off cuz their answer to every thing i say is ';yeah, BUT the bible says...'; ect. i told them ';God made gays gay just like he made you and me strait so if he hates them so much, why did he create them in the first place?'; i also said ';its something your born with, they cant help it'; (not that they need to). how can i open their minds? i know i cant change what they believe but some of my friends wont even let me talk about someone who is gay. ridiculous huh?

you're a very mature and open minded young girl, the meaning and interpretation for the bible is really different for everyone, the first thing you should remind anyone of that reads the bible is Matthew 7:1, ';Judge not that ye be not judged.'; , most of it was written to keep people within a moral code that was needed at that time, because the world was less civilized, the old testament of the bible has a lot of verses that are no longer adhered to even by strict Christians, such as ';MARK 12:18-27 If a man dies childless, his widow is ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers in turn until she bears her deceased husband a male heir.'; and ';DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21 If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately.'; it also says eating shell fish is a sin, not to mention tons of meaning were changed when the bible was translated from Hebrew, and of course not everyone has the same religious beliefs, and mutual respect for one anothers beliefs is necessary to avoid conflict

Tell them the bible was wrote 200 years after Jesus died number one.. number two if its such an important issue how come Jesus himself NEVER ONCE talked about homosexuality? Never once.. If they don't believe you get a bible where in the New Testament every time Jesus talks its printed in red ink. Never once will you see Jesus talk about gays. Just a couple of obscure other ppl in the old testament where it was important to be straight because tribes where small and it was important to reproduce and have children.
You're doing just fine. You may feel like a voice in the wilderness, but you make more of an impression than you realize. I grew up in the segregated South, and when I made remarks supportive of black people and their civil rights struggle I encountered the same sort of thing from my then-racist family. Just as I was proven right over time, so will you be. Don't get discouraged.

The Bible DOES say homosexuality is a sin. That won't change.


God didn't make people to misbehave sexually. Your friends and family know that. NO ONE has to act out and be sexually irresponsible. That's their choice.


Your friends and family also know that homosexuals can change. It happens. There are many ex homosexuals. That wouldn't be possible if God created them in that way, or if it were genetic.


Why don't you focus on a person based on character, integrity, etc. Not merely a sexual preference.
