I was doing some homework on my friends old computer, but they didn't have publisher, so I decided to save the word document I was working on, and use publisher at my house. Now I want to work on the word document, but it has been changed to a DOCX file that I can't open, and when I tried to open it with word, it just had lots of weird code that I didn't understand. I can't see anywhere on properties that will change it. Help?!How do I change a document type without opening it?
Would I be correct in believing that you have an earlier version of Microsoft Office Word, by any chance? If I am, you can download a FREE Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack, directly from Microsoft, that will allow you to open the Word 2007 version. (You'll notice that there's also a Service Pack to download for this Compatibility Pack on the same page.)
Best of luck to you.How do I change a document type without opening it?
The .docx file is from Word 2007 (probably). You can easily get Word 2003 to read it and write it (but not with Word 2007's new features) with the free Microsoft Compatibility Pack.
Hope that helps.
